My husband and I are in our early 80’s. Slowly, over the years, age has been taking its toll on our physical capabilities. We have been losing things too often. Couldn’t find something you were just holding a few seconds ago. Our maids leaving us in desperation over our short tempers. Or maybe, they were guilty over stealing so many things, we may find out about it?

I wish we had children. But it wasn’t God’s plan for us. In the early part of our marriage, it was perfect to be child-free. We could focus on our careers and interest. We didn’t have the usual problems that other couples had – worrying about school fees, worrying about doctors to bring the children to, worrying about drugs and other temptations that growing children were open to.

We saw the Newgrange Condotel. It was small enough to be personal and big enough to have extras like the roof garden that I could hide in when I felt too much stress. When we checked the units, what I liked most about it was the extra space on the balconies of the units on the second floor. You could even have a small party there. You could put up a few tables and chairs and invite friends over. I know, they had a small kitchen and living room area inside the condo unit. But that balcony that extended to the firewall was a real plus for us. Since we had planned to stay while we were waiting to sell our house in the Scout area, it was nice to have a roomy unit. We negotiated for an “extended stay” discount, which the Management gave after some deliberation.

Unfortunately, the sale of our house went through. The neighborhood was rising in terms of property values, and this was the right time to buy property while the prices were low. I tried to stay as long as I could at the Newgrange. But we had to continue with our plan to move to our province. Our nephew came to pick us up. We had become too old to live in the city.
